Manchester United have made a better offer of more than £60 million to buy Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo.
Earlier this month, United had a bid of £45 million plus up to £10 million in bonuses turned down for the 25-year-old.
Talks about the Cameroon forward, who would be United’s second signing this summer, are expected to continue this week.
After signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5 million, United want to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s squad before pre-season training starts on July 7.
Tottenham’s new manager Thomas Frank wanted to bring Mbeumo back to his team, and other Champions League clubs have also shown interest.
Brentford want at least the same amount as Wolves got for Cunha before they sell Mbeumo, who still has one year left on his contract.
Like Cunha, Mbeumo’s experience in the Premier League is a big plus because Amorim needs players who can quickly make a difference. United want to have a better start to the season than last year under Erik ten Hag.
Last season, Mbeumo scored a personal best of 20 goals for Brentford and helped with nine assists.
Mbeumo plays for Cameroon, just like United’s goalkeeper Andre Onana. Because Cameroon will play in the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Mbeumo will probably miss about four weeks of the 2025-26 season. Cameroon’s first game is against Gabon on December 24.
Meanwhile, there’s talk about Alejandro Garnacho’s future after he posted a picture wearing an Aston Villa shirt with the name ‘Rashford’ on social media.
Marcus Rashford, also out of favor at United, replied with a “my brother” message to Garnacho, who is valued at £60 million but was told by Amorim to find a new club this summer.
