Arsenal has reportedly offered €11 million to sign Brentford’s captain, Christian Norgaard, as the two clubs start talking about a possible transfer.
Arsenal needs a new experienced midfielder because Jorginho already said goodbye to the team, and Thomas Partey is also likely to leave soon since he hasn’t agreed on a new contract. That means Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta needs someone strong in the middle of the field—so it makes sense that he’s going after Norgaard this summer.
People have been talking about this deal for a week, but on Wednesday, The Athletic’s David Ornstein confirmed that negotiations were really happening. Another well-known soccer reporter, Fabrizio Romano, also said the deal was in progress. Some Arsenal fans are confused by the transfer, but Norgaard would bring a lot of experience to the team.
Earlier this month, Brentford’s coach Thomas Frank left to become Tottenham Hotspur’s new head coach. Some people thought Norgaard would follow him and join Spurs. But now, it looks like the 31-year-old midfielder will join Arsenal instead.
Arteta is also expected to sign Marin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad soon, as the Gunners work to build a new, stronger midfield for next season.
