In a notable move this summer, Ansu Fati has joined AS Monaco on a season-long loan from Barcelona for the 2025-26 season, with the option for the Ligue 1 side to make the transfer permanent for around €11 million. The 22-year-old Spanish winger, once heralded as one of Europe’s brightest young talents, has struggled for form and minutes in recent years and will now look to reignite his career in France.
As part of the agreement, Ansu Fati also extended his Barcelona contract until June 30, 2028, a decision aimed at easing the financial strain on the Catalan club while preserving their long-term investment in the player. Monaco will cover half of Fati’s salary during the loan, making the deal financially feasible for both parties.
After a difficult campaign at Barcelona under Hansi Flick, where Ansu Fati made just 11 appearances totaling 297 minutes in the 2024-25 season, it became clear the winger needed a fresh start. Persistent injury problems have hampered his progress since his early breakout at Camp Nou, and with competition stiffening — including the rise of Lamine Yamal, who has now inherited Fati’s famous No. 10 shirt — a move away was seen as the best option.
Monaco’s manager, Adolf Hütter, played a decisive role in bringing Fati to Stade Louis II. The Austrian tactician personally outlined his vision for the club and how Fati would fit into Monaco’s attacking plans, ultimately convincing the young Spaniard to accept the challenge.
The transfer was finalized after medical tests and negotiations between the clubs. The deal includes a buy option for Monaco and a buyback clause for Barcelona, ensuring the La Liga side retains some control over Fati’s future. Now, the focus turns to whether the talented winger can rediscover his form in Ligue 1.
