Atletico Madrid Stars Ready for Their Big Moment at the Club World Cup

The first-ever FIFA Club World Cup starts on June 14. It will be played in 12 stadiums across 11 cities in the United States. Big teams from all over the world are coming, and Atletico Madrid can’t wait.

Atletico Madrid Alvarez

Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann spoke to DAZN about how excited they are to play in this new tournament.

Alvarez said, “I’m super excited about this new World Cup. We’re one of the best teams in the world, and it feels awesome to represent LaLiga and our club. It’s great for our fans everywhere. Teams from different continents, with different styles of football, will all come together. It’s going to be amazing.

“Our goal is to compete and win, of course. We know it will be tough, but we’ll train hard and try to go as far as we can. We also know Atletico has fans all over the world. We feel their love and support on social media. Playing in the United States will be a great chance for them to cheer us on in person.”

Griezmann agreed and added, “What excites me most is that this is the first Club World Cup in this new format. I’m proud for myself and for the club to be part of it. Our first game is against Paris Saint-Germain. They’ve been playing really well, but we know we can challenge them—we beat them at their home stadium in the last second once!

“The fans in the U.S. will be from all different places, like a mini-World Cup in the stands. That will make the games even more fun to play and watch. Getting into this tournament was our big goal last year, and now we’re here.

“We really want to do well. We know a lot of Atleti fans—from Spain and other countries—will come to see us. We want to put on a show and show everyone what Atletico is all about.

“We dream big, and now it’s up to us to prove on the field that we can compete with anyone and reach the final!”
