Juventus just made a big move! The famous Italian soccer club has signed Canadian striker Jonathan David from the French team Lille. David, who is 24 years old, agreed to a five-year contract and will play for Juventus until June 2030.
David was a superstar at Lille. He scored an amazing 109 goals in 232 games while playing there. Last season, he made headlines by scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win against Real Madrid and also got two goals in a big 3-1 win over Atletico Madrid. In France’s top league, he finished fourth on the list of top scorers last season, second the year before, and third in 2022/23.
He’s the first new signing since Frenchman Damien Comolli became Juventus’ new general manager last month. David helped Lille win the French league championship in 2021. Now he joins a Juventus team that hasn’t won many trophies lately—they only won the Italian Cup last year and finished fourth in the league last season.
The team has also had some coaching changes. Thiago Motta was fired as coach in March after just eight months. Right now, Juventus is coached by Igor Tudor.
Juventus might not be done yet—they’re also interested in signing Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian striker David replaced at Lille. Osimhen was playing for Napoli but was loaned to Galatasaray last season, and Napoli wants around 70 million euros for him. There are also rumors that Juventus might try to get Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.
