Norwich City, a team in the Championship (which is just below the Premier League), has just signed Jakov Medic, a defender from Croatia, who was playing for Ajax in the Netherlands. Both teams confirmed the news on Wednesday.
Medic is 26 years old and has agreed to stay with Norwich for the next three years, all the way until 2028. The clubs didn’t say exactly how much Norwich paid, but some news in the Netherlands say Ajax got about €2.5 million for Medic.
“I’m really happy to join this club,” Medic said on Norwich’s website. “Norwich is a big club with a great history. From the very first time they contacted me and my agent, I was excited. They really wanted me here and have been watching me for a while. I always wanted to play in England, so it was an easy decision for me.”

Short Stay at Ajax
Medic moved to Ajax in 2023 from St. Pauli, a club in Germany. Even though he scored Ajax’s “Goal of the Season” during his debut against Heracles Almelo, things didn’t really work out for him in the Netherlands. He only played nine games for Ajax.
Later, Ajax sent him on loan to VfL Bochum in Germany for the 2024/25 season. Unfortunately, Bochum’s season ended badly—they were relegated from the Bundesliga, which means they dropped down to a lower league.
Ajax’s technical director, Alex Kroes, explained, “There weren’t many chances for Jakov at Ajax, so it was better for both sides to look for something new. At Norwich, he’ll have an exciting new challenge. We wish him all the best.”
Medic was originally supposed to stay at Ajax until 2028, but now he’s off to try and help Norwich City reach their goals.
