Real Madrid has shown recently that if they think a player isn’t worth what their club is asking, they are ready to risk losing them. Benfica’s left-back Alvaro Carreras is their top pick for that position, but Los Blancos are having trouble making a deal.

Last week, it was reported that Real Madrid had already finalized a deal for Carreras, and he seems to have agreed on personal terms with the club as well. However, the deal hasn’t gone through yet because of a disagreement over his price.
Benfica wants a €50m release clause for Carreras. Carreras, who is 22, has a €50m release clause in his contract, and Benfica has so far refused to lower that price. Marca reports that they are open to a more flexible payment plan than the release clause. Los Blancos are eager to reduce that price and have made it clear they won’t pay that amount, even if it means walking away from the deal. On their side, Benfica also wants to get as much as they can for Carreras, especially since Manchester United is expected to have a lot of money to spend too.
