Ajax are getting ready to sign a new player after they agreed on personal terms with Raul Moro, a winger from Real Valladolid.
Raul Moro is 22 years old. He was supposed to join Ajax back in January, but he hurt his shoulder, so the move didn’t happen. He stayed with Valladolid, but the team got relegated from LaLiga.
Ajax didn’t give up on him though. On Tuesday, Moro and Ajax agreed on a 5-year contract, right after Spain’s U21 team drew 1-1 with Italy at the U21 Euros, according to De Telegraaf.
Moro used to play in Barcelona’s famous youth academy, La Masia, before moving to Lazio when he was just 16 for €6 million. Now Ajax wants to make a deal with Valladolid. The Dutch club is hopeful they can agree on a transfer fee soon. Valladolid is going through some changes because Ronaldo (the Brazilian legend) recently sold his majority shares in the club.
After Spain beat Romania 2-1 at the U21 Euros in Slovakia, Moro talked about the Ajax move. He said Valladolid didn’t want to let him leave in January, and he respected their decision.
He also said, “I liked the offer because Ajax fights for the title in the Netherlands and plays in the Champions League. Who wouldn’t want to play in the Champions League? The Dutch league is great for young players.”
Moro always wanted to stay in Spain but is open to going abroad if the right offer comes along. “If I leave, I want to go somewhere that really wants me—not just because of agents or directors. I want the coach to want me.”
He said, “If Ajax make an offer, I’d be interested. If other foreign clubs also appeal to me, I have no problem moving.”
Last season, Moro played 34 games for Valladolid, scoring 5 goals and giving 6 assists. At the U21 Euros, he helped Spain with 2 assists in 3 games.
