Chelsea’s winger Mykhailo Mudryk might be banned from playing for up to four years after being charged with a doping offense by the Football Association (FA).
The 24-year-old was temporarily suspended in December because he tested positive for a banned substance called meldonium.
Chelsea was waiting for a second test, called the ‘B’ sample, to see if it matched the first result. On Wednesday, the FA said Mudryk could now face more punishment.
The FA said, “Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with breaking the anti-doping rules because of a banned substance.” They also said they can’t say more right now because the case is still going on.
Chelsea hasn’t said anything about the FA’s new announcement. Rules say Mudryk could get a long suspension, even though he said he didn’t break any rules on purpose.
People told ESPN that the drug was probably given to him when he was outside the UK.

After the first suspension news came out in December, Mudryk posted on Instagram: “This is a big shock to me because I never knowingly took any banned substances or broke any rules. I’m working with my team to find out how this happened.”
He added, “I know I didn’t do anything wrong and hope to be back playing soon. I can’t say more now because of the rules, but I will when I can.”
