Bayern Munich, the champions of Germany, have reportedly agreed to sign Liverpool winger Luis Diaz in a massive £65.5 million deal, according to several reports on Sunday.
Bayern’s first offer of £59 million was turned down by Liverpool last week, but their improved bid now seems to have done the trick. Diaz has even been given permission to leave Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Asia so he can head to Germany and complete his medical.
Diaz joined Liverpool from Porto back in January 2022 and has been a key part of the team’s success. He won the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup during his time at Anfield. Last season, the 28-year-old played 50 games and scored 17 goals as Liverpool won the English title for the first time in five years.
On Saturday, Diaz was left out of Liverpool’s 4-2 friendly loss to AC Milan in Hong Kong, which only fueled speculation about his future. After the match, Liverpool manager Arne Slot said:
“There’s a lot of rumours around Lucho (Diaz) lately, and I can’t go into that. He’s training really well with us, but we’ve decided not to play him for now.”
Bayern will be happy to add Diaz because they need a big attacking player after Jamal Musiala suffered a serious injury at the Club World Cup earlier this month. Musiala broke his leg and dislocated his ankle, and he’s expected to be out for a long time.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have been very busy in the transfer market this summer. They’ve already signed star playmaker Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen and striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. Defenders Jeremie Frimpong (Leverkusen) and Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth) have also joined, as well as goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia.
The Reds are also believed to be interested in Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who is valued at around £150 million.
