Big news in football: Liverpool is super close to signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen!
Wirtz is just 22 years old, but he’s already considered one of the best young players around. Liverpool and Leverkusen have nearly agreed on a huge transfer deal. Right now, Leverkusen wants £120 million, but Liverpool has offered £109 million. Everyone thinks they’ll work it out soon because Wirtz really wants to play for Liverpool.
He’ll sign a five-year contract, earning an incredible £18.5 million each year! Before joining his new teammates for pre-season training in July, Wirtz will have a medical check-up next week, followed by a short holiday.
Liverpool’s coach, Arne Slot, has shown Wirtz exactly how important he’ll be in the team’s plans as their main playmaker (number 10). This convinced him even more that Liverpool is the right place to be.
If Liverpool pays the full £120 million, this would become the most expensive transfer in British football history, beating the record set when Chelsea bought Moises Caicedo for £115 million.
However, there’s one interesting twist. Koln, Wirtz’s childhood club, says they deserve a piece of the fee. FIFA rules say that clubs which train players when they’re young can get five percent of the money from their future transfers. Wirtz spent almost 10 years at Koln before moving to Leverkusen at 17, meaning Koln could get around £5 million from this deal—and they’re determined to claim it.
Fans can expect official news soon, as it seems Wirtz will soon be Liverpool’s newest star!
