Lloyd Kelly is now officially a Juventus player! Juventus bought him from Newcastle United for €17.5 million, and there could be even more money added through bonuses.
Kelly first joined Juventus in January on loan. That loan cost €3 million, but the deal had a special rule: if Juventus stayed in Serie A (Italy’s top league), they had to buy him. Since that was pretty much guaranteed, everyone expected the transfer to become permanent.
Newcastle announced the move today, but called the fee “undisclosed.” Juventus, however, already shared the price back in January, because teams in Italy have to be open about transfer fees.
So, Juventus is paying an extra €14.5 million, and maybe up to €3 million more if Kelly does well.
This season, Kelly played 12 games in Serie A, 2 in the Champions League, and 1 in the Coppa Italia for Juventus.
Some people say this was a bad investment for Juventus’ sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, who ended up getting fired after just two years in the job.
