Real Madrid is paying close attention to what’s going on with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate. His contract at Liverpool has a little more than a year left, so if he doesn’t sign a new deal, he could leave for free next summer—and Real Madrid could swoop in and sign him!
According to the Spanish sports newspaper Marca, people in charge at Real Madrid are watching to see what happens. If Konate doesn’t sign a new contract soon, they might even offer him a deal in January, so he could join them for free next summer.
Konate is a French international player, and there have been a lot of rumors about his contract talks. At the end of last season, Konate spoke out about all the gossip. He said, “You know, I just want to say one thing: Everything you saw on social media is completely fake.”
He explained that he never demanded anything from Liverpool. The club made him an offer, and he just replied to it. He also said that even some famous journalists got it wrong, claiming he was about to sign when that wasn’t true at all. Konate said it made him a bit mad to read these things because he hadn’t even been close to signing.

Konate shared, “People might think I didn’t want to sign, but that’s not true. We’ll just have to see what happens. Nothing is really progressing right now, but my agent did meet with the club last week. I can’t share what they talked about, but yeah, we’ll see what happens.”
So, for now, it’s all up in the air. Will Konate sign a new contract with Liverpool, or will he leave and maybe join Real Madrid for free? Only time will tell!
