Fluminense’s captain, Thiago Silva, was extra happy after his team won 2-0 against Inter Milan in the Club World Cup round of 16. Not only did his team play great, but Thiago Silva also enjoyed beating the big rivals of his old club, AC Milan.
Thiago Silva is 40 years old now and came back to play for Fluminense, his hometown club, last year. But a long time ago, he played for AC Milan for three years, from 2009 to 2012. When he played there, he even won a big league title and an Italian Super Cup!
After Fluminense knocked Inter Milan out of the tournament, Silva admitted he was thinking about all the AC Milan fans who would be excited to see their rivals lose. “I was thinking about Milan,” he told reporters after the game. “I know the Milan fans will be happy that Inter lost and that we won.”
Thiago Silva has also played for other famous teams like Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, but this win felt really special. He was super proud of how Fluminense played against such a strong team. Inter Milan were in the Champions League final just a few weeks ago!
“This is a really big result for us,” Silva said. “We knew it would be a tough game. They played in the Champions League final not long ago.”
He also said, “Today we played an amazing match. There was no other way to win—everyone worked together. We defended really well. Inter made things hard for us, but that’s normal because they are a great team.”
Now, Fluminense will play against Al Hilal in the quarter-finals on Friday. Thiago Silva and his team are excited and ready for the next challenge!
